BAKU - Bilateral cooperation in justice and immigration is high on agenda during the visit by the Netherlands’ Justice Minister Hirsch Ballin, to Azerbaijan.

The Dutch minister arrived in Baku on Sunday for a working visit at the invitation of his Azerbaijani counterpart Fikrat Mammadov.

Mammadov said in a meeting with Ballin Monday that the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two countries in 2002 had given an incentive to the development of Azerbaijani-Dutch relations in the legal realm, pointing to vast prospects for deepening bilateral relations.

The Dutch minister praised the ongoing reforms in Azerbaijan’s judiciary and justice systems, including penitentiary reform, and the achievements made. Ballin said his visit would give an impetus to expanding legal ties, adding that his government was ready to facilitate broadening of bilateral cooperation.

During the visit, Ballin will hold talks with Azerbaijani Interior Minister Ramil Usubov, Supreme Court Chairman Ramiz Rzayev, Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov, as well as with the heads of the immigration service and border control.

The Dutch minister will also visit the newly built pre-trial detention facility in Baku.

Ballin’s visit will end on Thursday.
