War inevitable over Karabakh: analyst
BAKU - War is inevitable in the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Upper (Nagorno) Karabakh, an Azerbaijani analyst has said.
Mubariz Ahmadoghlu, head of the Center for Political Innovation and Technology, opined at a news conference Wednesday that the latest three statements issued by the presidents of the countries co-chairing the mediating OSCE Minsk Group advocate for resolving the long-standing dispute by military means. Ahmadoghlu believes that these statements necessitate hostilities even more than Armenia’s non-constructive position. "The co-chairing countries - the United States, Russia and France – are interested in war in the region."
According to the analyst, there could be scenarios of a minor or an all-out war in resolving the Karabakh conflict.
"If the Minsk Group abandons its mediating mission in full, without playing any political games, a minor war encompassing Nagorno Karabakh’s boundaries will begin. But if the Minsk Group does not give up its mediation, then a big war encompassing the North Caucasus and Iran’s territory will break out. The U.S. is interested in the war shifting to the Iranian territory, while some forces in the West are seeking its shifting to the North Caucasus," said Ahmadoghlu.
