BAKU - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Friday hosted Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri who visited Baku to attend a meeting of the inter-governmental commission.

Gilauri stressed the importance of the decisions passed during President Aliyev’s latest visit to Georgia for the expansion of bilateral cooperation, saying one of the reasons of his current visit was to implement those decisions.

The Georgian prime minister said he had issued relevant orders in conclusion of the talks held in Batumi, voicing hope that the issues involved would be successfully resolved during further meetings of the Georgia-Azerbaijan inter-governmental commission.

During President Aliyev’s visit to Batumi on Sunday, the two leaders agreed that Azerbaijan and Georgia will establish a joint working group to develop the transport corridor from Asia to Europe through Georgia and Azerbaijan.

The parties also intend to speed the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which will also ensure a short route from Europe to Asia, and that of the highway linking Baku with Batumi.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili also said after talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart that Tbilisi was in talks with Baku on "confederative cooperation".

The 50-people-strong Georgian delegation, led by the country’s premier, concluded their visit to Azerbaijan on the same day.*
