New opposition alliance to be set up (UPDATED)
BAKU - A new opposition alliance will be established in
Azerbaijan later this week, chairman of the Civil and Development
Party, Ali Aliyev, was quoted as saying.
"By the end of this week we expect the staff of our electoral bloc
to be announced. Then, we can specify a list of candidates. Thus,
the public will know about our policy concerning elections," Aliyev
said.
The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for
November 7. Parliamentary elections are held every five years in
125 electoral constituencies by the majority of votes system.
Aliyev commented on the recent collapse of main opposition
alliance, Azadliq Bloc, as well as on his party setback.
"We have taken a break to change the agenda. We do not want to
discuss what happened within the Azadliq Bloc. At the moment, we
are working on ways of running for the parliamentary elections. The
party candidates are being determined… One of the main challenges
is to answer the question as to who will be represented in the
electoral bloc," Aliyev said.
Azadliq included the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, the Liberal
Party, and the Civil and Development Party.
