OSCE to send fact-finding mission to occupied Azeri land

OSCE to send fact-finding mission to occupied Azeri land
An OSCE fact-finding mission will be delegated in fall to the Armenia-occupied Azerbaijani territories, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has said.
He told reporters Friday that the goal of the mission, which is to be sent there upon Baku’s demands, is to clarify whether or not the policy of illegal settlements is being pursued in those lands.
Mammadyarov said the visit will be a continuation of the mission carried out in the Armenia-occupied territories in 2005.
"At the time the fact-finding mission prepared a report for the United Nations and the OSCE. This time, the situation there will be studied anew and analyzed."
A fragile ceasefire has been in place in the region since a brutal war there in the 1990s that claimed some 30,000 lives and displaced about one million Azerbaijanis from their homes. Armenia continues to occupy Upper Garabagh and seven adjacent Azerbaijani districts in defiance of international law. The ceasefire accord was signed in 1994, but the OSCE-brokered peace talks have been fruitless so far. Azerbaijan has never ruled out military action to liberate its land and has spent billions on dollars on building up its military.*
