Azeri president’s aide: Clinton’s visit to take co-op to new level
Azerbaijan's relations with the United States are at a proper
level, but there are issues to which Washington should pay more
attention, a senior Azerbaijani official has said.
Novruz Mammadov, the head of the Presidential Administration international relations department, was commenting on US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s forthcoming visit to Azerbaijan.
"I think that the US government is aware of Azerbaijan's importance, and from this point of view, we can expect that during Secretary Clinton's visit to Azerbaijan, our cooperation will reach a new level of development," Mammadov told the press Thursday.
"The recent developments around the settlement to the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh indicate that an important step should be taken, therefore, Azerbaijan expects a lot from Mrs. Clinton's visit."
According to Mammadov, the Nagorno Garabagh conflict will be high on the agenda during Clinton's visit and her meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The US Secretary of State will visit Ukraine, Poland, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia from July 1-5.*
