Security tightened over presumed threat to Jews
The Jewish organizations operating in Azerbaijan have appealed to
local law-enforcement agencies to tighten security in the areas of
their location.
The request has already been taken into account and urgent steps taken to ensure safety in these areas, the Interior Ministry said.
The Jewish News Agency reported on Friday that Jewish diplomatic representations and groups have come under a threat after the murder of Hezbollah's military wing leader Imad Mugniyah in Syria. However, the Israeli embassy in Baku and Jewish organizations continue to operate in Azerbaijan despite security concerns.
Mugniyah, a top Hezbollah leader and the world's most wanted terrorist after Usama bin Laden, was killed in a car bomb in Damascus last Wednesday.
