Some embassies breaking laws
The Azerbaijani government has accused some embassies of blatantly
violating the country's laws.
"They are creating suitable conditions for Azerbaijani citizens working there to evade taxes," the Foreign Ministry spokesman Khazar Ibrahim told a news briefing on Monday.
Ibrahim said that although the ministry and other government agencies have repeatedly warned diplomatic missions of this, the appeals have fallen on deaf ears. He did not spell out the amount and which embassies were involved, but said considerable funds were at stake.
Ibrahim warned of severe consequences if they fail to comply. "Specific punitive action is stipulated by the law for such violations. But it would be good if the embassies honored the country's laws on their own."
