30 PACE observers to monitor Azerbaijan’s Nov. election
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will
delegate a 30-people-strong mission of observers to monitor the
parliamentary elections to be held in Azerbaijan on November 7,
says an assembly co-rapporteur for the country.
Andres Herkel told a PACE bureau Monday that it is unknown, at this
point, as to who will head the delegation.
Also, a month prior to the elections PACE will delegate a
five-people-strong pre-election observation mission to the
country.
As for the expiry of Herkel’s tenure as a PACE co-rapporteur, he
said the issue will most likely be discussed during the assembly’s
fall session.
During a meeting of the PACE summer session on Thursday,
participants will mull the activity of democratic institutions in
Azerbaijan. Herkel is expected to address the session on the
issue.*
