Azeri defense ministry dismisses report on deadly shooting
The Azerbaijan Defense Ministry has dismissed the report about a
shooting among soldiers in one of the country’s military units that
allegedly left seven servicemen dead.
In a statement, the ministry spokesman, Eldar Sabiroghlu, termed as
rumors the information provided in a story carried by Bizim Yol
newspaper’s Friday issue, entitled "Seven killed in a shooting
among military men".
"How is it possible for an incident of this scale to take place and
for the Defense Ministry not to state a specific stance?"
Sabiroghlu queried. "We consider this a provocation."
Bizim Yol maintained that seven servicemen were killed and several
others were wounded in the shooting, which the report said took
place in a military unit in Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli region and had been
caused by a conflict between officers and soldiers.*
