Stratfor head: U.S. to focus on issues vital for Azerbaijan
Relations between Azerbaijan and the U.S. are not as good as they
could be, the US think-tank Stratfor’s Chief Executive, George
Friedman, says.
According to him, the U.S. is attending to many other issues and cannot deal with the issue of U.S.-Azerbaijan relations more closely. However, the U.S. appreciates Azerbaijan’s assistance in Iraq and Afghanistan and will be focusing more on the regional issues that are important for Azerbaijan in the future, he told the press in Baku Wednesday.
He said that the U.S. was not paying ample attention to U.S.-Azerbaijan relations, as it is dealing with such issues as the crisis between Turkey and Israel, Iran and Afghanistan, but Washington does not forget who its real partner is.
Answering a question about the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh, Friedman said that the U.S. does not clearly understand the situation with the occupied Azerbaijani territories and the Garabagh issue as a whole.
"Unfortunately, the U.S. cannot fully appreciate the importance of Azerbaijan, either," he added.*
