Two Azeris detained after Israeli attack on aid ships
Two Azerbaijani citizens were detained on board the vessels of the
aid flotilla that was attacked by Israeli forces on its way to the
Gaza Strip.
The two were included in the list of the Israeli Interior Ministry among those who are to be immediately deported from the country.
Though earlier reports said they were among the 124 people from twelve Islamic countries deported to Jordan on Wednesday, the Azerbaijani government’s scrutiny has revealed that they are still in Israel. Foreign Ministry spokesman Elkhan Polukhov said the ministry was working to arrange their speediest repatriation.
The list released by the Israeli ministry includes citizens of 33 countries.
Scores were reportedly killed, mostly Turkish nationals, when the aid flotilla consisting of six vessels, co-sponsored by a Turkish organization, was attacked by Israeli commandos on Monday. Azerbaijan strongly condemned the attack, which sparked an angry response from the international community and prompted protests worldwide.*
