Turkic parliament assembly office opens in Baku
The office of the General Secretariat of the Turkic countries'
Parliamentary Assembly (TurkPA) was opened in Baku on Monday. The
office is based in the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani parliament)
building.
The opening ceremony was attended by a number of officials,
including Turkish Vice-Speaker Nevzat Pakdil and chairman of
Kazakhstan’s parliamentary committee for foreign relations, defense
and security Amzebek Zholshibekov.
Pakdil expressed hope that the Turkic-speaking nations, who have
the same origin, will draw even closer in the future, developing
cooperation in various fields.
Pakdil noted the special role of Azerbaijan’s late national leader,
former President Heydar Aliyev and Kazakh President Nursultan
Nazarbayev in the establishment of the TurkPA.
The TurkPA was established in Baku last year. Under the agreement
reached, the organization’s secretariat is based in the Azerbaijani
capital. The organization comprises Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan
and Kyrgyzstan.*
