Fuji Optical team to provide aid to Azeri refugees
Akio Kanai, head of Fuji Optical, and five members of his team
arrived in Azerbaijan Thursday to provide eye care for refugees,
according to the UN Department of Public Information (UN DPI).
During the visit, which will last till May 28, the team will provide services to IDPs temporarily settled in Mingachevir and Agjabadi regions, as well as refugees and asylum seekers in Baku through eye screening and eye glasses distribution. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) representation in Azerbaijan is facilitating the mission activities with support of the Republican Commission on International Humanitarian Assistance.
Kanai and his team will meet with Ali Hasanov, Deputy Prime Minister and chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs, on May 27.
Akio Kanai, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fuji Optical, who has won the world’s top award for assisting refugees, has pledged to pour the prize money back into the work that led to the honor – working with the UN refugee agency to help displaced vision-impaired people.
