Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev enacted a decree Wednesday to
establish a governmental commission to deal with the consequences
caused by the overflowing of the Kura and Araz rivers that has
caused devastating floods in a number of surrounding regions.
The decree notes that as a result of the floods, 20,000 homes have flooded, along with 50,000 hectares of arable land and pastures, over 300 homes collapsed, 2,000 houses have been severely damaged, and extensive infrastructure and numerous social facilities have become dilapidated.
The commission will work to eliminate the consequences of the disaster, including restoration of the damaged economy in the flood-affected regions.*
