Baku says ready to back NATO’s emergency efforts
NATO members and partners should work in concert to bolster mechanisms for allocating international aid, given the ever-existing risk of natural and man-made disasters, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov has said.
"This being said, Azerbaijan is ready to provide additional assistance to NATO in emergency planning. Mutual success will be a result of our cooperation," he told a meeting of the alliance’s committee for civic and emergency planning in Baku on Tuesday.
According to Heydarov, this cooperation will allow the Azerbaijani people to make their contribution "to the allocation of international aid at the right time and in the right place".
The Committee’s plenary meeting underway in the Azerbaijani capital is taking place as part of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC) and with the support of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Heydarov pointed out that the civil emergency planning system has been fully re-organized in Azerbaijan in recent years.
According to him, the mentioned collaboration is a pivotal step that will allow conducting joint exercises in this area. "Such trainings strengthen practical skills and provide suitable conditions for exchange of experience."
The Committee meeting was attended by representatives of NATO member states and partner countries as well as Maurits Jochems, the alliance’s Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Plans.
