Czech Republic opens embassy in Baku
Czech Republic has inaugurated its embassy in Azerbaijan, which
will be located at the Caspian Plaza business center.
Azeri Deputy FM Araz Azimov and Czech foreign minister Jan Kohout cut the ribbon symbolizing the official opening of the diplomatic representation.
Kohout said the opening of the embassy is vivid demonstration of how much importance Czech Republic attaches to developing relations with Azerbaijan.
"In an aftermath of the global economic crisis Czech Republic has cut part of spending for opening embassies abroad. But despite this we decided to open our diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan."
Kohout expressed confidence the embassy would play an important role in boosting the two countries` relations, in particular in the fields of politics, economy, culture, education and tourism.
During the two-day official visit, Kohout will have a number of meetings with Azerbaijani officials to discuss bilateral relations.
The embassy actually functioned from the autumn of last year. The first Czech ambassador to Azerbaijan is Radek Matula. *
