Azeri, Armenian leaders not to hold taks in Moscow - spokesman
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will visit Moscow at the
invitation of his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev to attend
events marking the 65th anniversary of the victory in World War II,
due on Sunday, the Azerbaijani President’s spokesman, Azer Gasymov,
has said.
Commenting on whether President Aliyev will participate at the informal summit of CIS leaders due in Moscow on Saturday, Gasymov said in an interview with Day.Az news portal that May 8 marks the occupation of ancient Azerbaijani town of Shusha by Armenian armed forces, which rules this out.
"On this day, joint participation in any event with the president of the aggressor country, Serzh Sarkisian, is unacceptable for the Azerbaijani side."
Shusha is located in the Armenia-occupied Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh region of Azerbaijan. Shusha has been under Armenian occupation since May 1992. Hundreds of people were killed and became disabled and about 22,000 people were ousted from their homes when it was invaded during the war fought by Armenia and Azerbaijan.*
