Azerbaijan to display weaponry at Jordan exhibition
Azerbaijan will display over 50 types of defense industry goods
at the Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference (SOFEX),
due in Jordan May 10-13, a source from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of
Defense Industry said.
This is the first time Azerbaijan is joining SOFEX, one of the
biggest exhibitions of military goods in the Middle East. Prior to
this event, which is being held in Jordan for the eighth time, the
South Caucasus republic joined the IDEF international exhibition in
Turkey in 2009.
According to the ministry, Azerbaijan’s exhibits will include
sniper rifles, pistols, mine and grenade launchers, air bombs,
remotely controlled mine explosives, as well as armored vehicles
manufactured jointly with South Africa’s Paramount Group.
During the SOFEX 2010 exhibition, which is a special operations and
homeland security event held every two years under the auspices of
King Abdullah II, 319 defense industry companies from 34 countries
will display their goods. The greatest number of companies will be
from the United States, Jordan, Turkey, Britain, France, the Czech
Republic and Russia.*
