Azeri consul in Istanbul replaced
Sayyad Salahly will step down as Azerbaijan’s
Consul-General in Istanbul, Turkey and the country’s permanent
representative at the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization
(BSEC), according to a decree enacted by President Ilham
Aliyev.
Under another presidential decree, Hasan Zeynalov, who has so far served as Azerbaijani Consul-General in the Turkish town of Kars, will take the consul’s position in Istanbul.
We recall that the work of the Azerbaijani consulate in Istanbul was recently criticized in parliament. Gular Ahmadova, who represents the governing Yeni (New) Azerbaijan Party (YAP), blamed Salahly for negligence. Speaker Ogtay Asadov said he had received several complaints about the consul and had notified the foreign minister about them.*
