Azerbaijan’s absence at nuclear summit Obama administration’s ‘serious mistake’
The fact that Azerbaijan did not participate in the nuclear
security summit in Washington is a serious mistake of the Obama
administration, chairman of the Johns Hopkins University’s Central
Asia-Caucasus Institute Frederick Starr told the state news agency
Azertaj.
According to Starr, notwithstanding White House’s official
statement everyone understands Azerbaijan was left out of the
summit to smooth the way for Turkey-Armenia talks.
"President Obama mostly likely thought presence of the head of the
country, whose territory was occupied by Armenia, would not allow
reaching an agreement between Turkey and Armenia. Of course, it is
a serious mistake. Obama Administration has already realized it.
The majority of congressmen stated that this step is wrong. I hope
serious criticism against the White House will make it more
sensitive to the South Caucasus. President Ilham Aliyev was right
when he expressed opinion openly towards the issue," said Starr.
