300 Armenian ceasefire breaches reported in three months
Armenian armed forces committed 298 ceasefire violations on the
contact line with Azerbaijani troops in January-March 2010,
Azerbaijan’s Garabagh Liberation Organization (GLO) estimates.
The GLO said in a report that six Azerbaijani servicemen were
killed in the ceasefire breaches and six other people, including
two civlians, were wounded. Moreover, Armenia took two Azerbaijani
civilians hostage on its border with Georgia.
The Armenian troops staged four exercises in Azerbaijan’s occupied
Aghdam and Fuzuli regions in the three-month period, the GLO
said.
The report also said that 15 military men died and three others
were injured in Azerbaijan’s military units from diseases,
negligence in handling weapons, accidents and for other
reasons.
Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry declined comment, saying it was not
familiar with the GLO’s findings.
Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict for two
decades. Armenia has been occupying over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's
territory since the early 1990s. The ceasefire accord was signed in
1994, but efforts by international mediators have been largely
fruitless so far, and sporadic clashes on the frontline
continue.*
