Azerbaijan, Russia see eye-to-eye on slew of issues - official
The economic, social and cultural relations between Azerbaijan and
Russia have considerably intensified in past years, and the two
neighboring countries have managed to bring into compliance their
interests in these and other fields, the head of an Azerbaijani
Presidential Administration department has said.
Ali Hasanov told reporters that this stems from the fact that Russia sees its southern neighbor as a full-fledged partner. Azerbaijan, for its part, views Russia as a superpower, a friendly and partner state, and attaches great importance to its relations with Moscow.
"The strategic partnership ties, whose groundwork was laid with the former Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Azerbaijan in 2001 and which he directly insisted upon during his meetings with Heydar Aliyev [Azerbaijan’s late national leader and former President], are developing today as well," Hasanov said.*
