Israel’s former official condemns Armenian occupation
Israel’s former Deputy Defense Minister, Ephraim Sneh, has
pointed to the Armenian occupation of a part of Azerbaijan’s
territory.
In a meeting with young diplomats at the Azerbaijan Academy of
Diplomacy, Sneh also blamed the world community for a double
standard approach, according to the Israeli embassy in Baku. He
said that through the UN Security Council and the international
community as a whole have strongly blamed Tel-Aviv for taking over
land by force and labeled this as "unacceptable", they are adhering
to a milder stance with regard to the Armenian occupation of the
neighboring country’s land.
The former deputy minister stressed that over 20 percent of
Azerbaijan's territory had been invaded illegitimately and with the
use of force.
Azerbaijan and Armenia fought a lengthy war that ended with the
signing of a cease-fire in 1994, but Armenia continues to occupy
Upper Garabagh and seven other Azerbaijani districts in defiance of
international law. Peace talks have been largely fruitless so far
and refugees remain stranded.*
