Azerbaijan not to attend nuclear security summit
Azerbaijan will not participate at the international summit on
nuclear security, due in the United States April 12-13, Foreign
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov told the press Thursday.
According to him, due to the absence of nuclear weapons on Azerbaijani soil, Baku’s participation is unnecessary.
"Azerbaijan does not hold atomic weapons in its territory and has no intention to do so. Therefore, there is no need for joining this summit," the minister said.
44 countries have been invited to the summit, to be presided by US President Barack Obama, which chiefly aims to discuss joint efforts in countering the proliferation of nuclear weapons.*
