Embassy: Lack of US envoy no sign of tension in Azeri ties
Terry Davidson, the spokesman for the US embassy in
Baku, has dismissed a public opinion in Azerbaijan that the absence
of a US envoy in the country is due to problems in bilateral
relations.
"Many in Azerbaijan think the fact that a US ambassador has not served here for eight months has resulted from problems in the two countries’ relations, but this is not the case," Davidson told reporters.
According to the embassy spokesman, the delay is linked to the developments at home. Davidson said the process of appointing and endorsing ambassadors by the White House proceeds at a very slow pace.
The post of the US ambassador in Baku has been vacant since June 2, 2009.
