Syria dismisses CBS report on ‘mass burial of Armenians’

Syria has tersely responded to a recent program aired by the United States’ CBS TV channel about the 1915 "genocide" of Armenians allegedly committed in Ottoman Turkey and the presence of a mass burial of Armenians in its present-day territory.
Turkey’s Radical newspaper quoted Syrian Information Minister Mohsin Bilal as saying that there is no mass burial of Armenians in Syria’s Deir ez Zor region and the claims cited in the CBS program are absolutely false.
Bilal also said CBS employees had not been authorized by the government to shoot a report in the country’s territory. "If we had known about this, we would not have permitted the footage."
Omer Onhon, Turkey’s Ambassador in Damascus, said that "finding a couple of bones does not mean mass killings."
The CBS’ well-known "60 minutes" program claimed that 450,000 Armenians were slain in the Deir ez Zor region. Some Armenians interviewed by CBS went as far as saying that Adolph Hitler was inspired by the 1915 developments to commit mass killings of Jews.*
