Aliyev blasts congressional ‘genocide’ bill in talks with Turkey’s Gul
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made a phone call to his Turkish
counterpart Abdullah Gul on Friday during which he strongly
condemned the resolution passed by the US House Committee on
Foreign Affairs on the alleged 1915 killings of Armenians in
Ottoman Turkey, Azerbaijan’s state-run AzerTAj news agency
reported.
Aliyev described it as an unfair decision misrepresenting historical facts and fueling tension in the region.
He emphasized that Azerbaijan has always been alongside Turkey and will continue to support this country.
"The attempts of Armenians, who committed genocide against Turkey and Azerbaijan throughout history, to falsify history, are doomed to fail and will not be accepted by the world community," President Aliyev said.
The Turkish president, for his part, hailed President Aliyev’s stance on the issue.
The presidents also discussed bilateral relations and the situation in the region.*
