Aliyev named Person of the Year in Russia
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has been announced Person of the
Year 2009 in Russia, Azerbaijan’s state-run AzerTAj news agency
reported.
This annual Grand Prix is awarded to the people who have remarkably asserted themselves in their countries’ political, social and governmental realms during the year.
This national award "Person of Year", the ceremony of which took place on Thursday in the Kremlin, has been established by the Russian news agency RBC.
According to the award founders, the Person of the Year is someone who embodies a significant tendency of development of a given country and shapes its future.
Winners of the award are determined by the advisory council comprising prominent politicians, political and public figures, the heads of major companies, men of science and culture as well as media representatives.
The award is conferred in socio-political and business spheres, and also in special nominations. The highest award is the Grand Prix. Its owners are awarded the Slava Otechestvo order.
Selection of winners was carried out in the backdrop of the economic crisis, which largely determined the composition of the successful candidates. Most of the winners were awarded thanks to successfully overcoming the crisis.*
