Al-Qaeda militants nabbed in Iraq after attack on Azeri pilgrims
Al-Qaeda militants who attacked a bus carrying Azerbaijani pilgrims to Karbala, Iraq have been detained, Azerbaijan’s Birlik (Union) online news portal said.
The report quoted Iraqi police officials as saying that an investigation into the shooting had revealed that four assailants had staged the assault. The armed group is said to have committed several similar attacks in the past. The militants had been wanted after having perpetrated the first such terror act, but it has been impossible to nab them so far due to their continuous relocating, police officials said.
The attack on the pilgrims was staged on January 27 in Iraq’s city of Samarra. Leyla Ahmadova, a 16-year-old resident of the Mashtaga settlement of Baku, died, while two others were wounded. The victim of the terror act was buried in Samarra. *
