Israel FM urges Aliyev to press on Palestine leader

Azerbaijan has called on President Ilham Aliyev to mediate talks on

website has quoted the country’s Foreign Ministry as saying.
The Middle East problem was among the issues of global significance Lieberman discussed during a meeting with President Aliyev on Tuesday. According to the website, the Israeli official expressed hope for a speedy resumption of peace talks with Palestine. He noted that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is due to pay a visit to Baku soon, calling on the Azerbaijani leader to make an effort to convince him of the importance of resuming negotiations with Tel-Aviv.
The Azerbaijani President’s press-service said the meeting with the Israeli minister focused on bilateral relations, as well as issues of economic cooperation between the two countries.
Lieberman, who is in Baku on a three-day visit, has also met with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov. The discussions centered on cooperation in the fields of medicine, energy and security, as well as on signing an agreement on lifting double taxation, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said.
Lieberman offered bilateral cancellation of visa regulations between Israel and Azerbaijan and deemed as important discussing the allocation of pensions to the formerly Azerbaijani citizens residing in his country.
Baku and Tel-Aviv agreed to continue negotiating the mentioned issues.*
