Iran TV channel airs anti-Azerbaijan report
An Iranian TV channel has aired a report about the
Israel-Palestine conflict which tarnishes Azerbaijan by displaying
footage that infers a link between the atrocities of war and
Azerbaijan.
The Seher TV channel`s Compass program outrageously displayed
Azerbaijan`s map along with footage of children killed in Gaza and
Israeli officials.
Of note, following the scenes of dead children, the program
baselessly displayed an image of Azerbaijani President Ilham
Aliyev. Moreover, Azerbaijan`s military is displayed in the
background of the gruesome developments, along with frequent images
of Israeli and Azerbaijani flags as well as scenes of meetings
between the two countries` officials.
The provocative footage ostensibly takes the matters out of context
and evidently aims to produce an erroneous impression for the
viewers.
Javanshir Akhundov, Azerbaijan`s Ambassador to Iran, has told the
Baku-based ANS TV channel that the embassy will launch an
investigation into the television program.
Akhundov said broadcasting such video-clips is provocative and
apparently aims at tarnishing the high-level relations and
cooperation between the two countries.
The Iranian Ambassador in Baku, Mahammad Bagir Bahrami, has sought
to clarify whether his government would take action in light of the
Seher TV channel`s reports damaging Iran-Azerbaijan relations.
``It is my belief that the media in both countries should work to
strengthen relations between the two countries and nations. There
are some media outlets in your country, too, that do not strive to
that end. I want the media on both sides to work toward furthering
the policy reflecting the will of the two countries` presidents and
enriching [our] brotherhood and friendship,`` Bahrami said.
Seher discontinued broadcasting the provocative footage last Friday
but put it back on the air on Monday.
Observers note that though the TV channel, known for airing
anti-Azerbaijan reports, has significantly scaled back such
broadcasts, the number of such reports has increased anew prior to
Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman`s visit to Baku, which
started on Tuesday.
