Rebel Chechen diplomat murdered in Baku
A deputy of the unrecognized Chechen Republic of Ichkeria's former
representative in Azerbaijan was murdered in Baku on Sunday.
The 42-year-old Imran Gaziyev was shot dead close to his residence in the Binaghadi district while he was returning home at about 7.30 p.m. He died of seven bullet wounds in his head, chest and stomach. The law enforcers discovered a Baykal type handgun and a silencer at the crime scene.
Ichkeria's human rights representative in Azerbaijan Isa Ahyadov says Russian authorities had a hand in the murder.
"There is only one reason. This was done by the Russian secret service. They have already killed a few of us here, including political and military figures," he said.
The Binaghadi prosecutor's office has launched a criminal case on charges of manslaughter and illegal possession of arms.
The representation of the unrecognized Chechen Republic in Baku was shut down in 2002.
