28 December 2009 21:58 (UTC+04:00)
Hyundai Auto Azerbaijan is kicking off a campaign in 2010 to assist children who lost their parents in car accidents under the one-of-the-kind "Arm-in-arm for the future" project, the carmaker announced at a news conference last week.
Konul Karimova, the company’s manager, said the project aims to meet the basic needs of children under 18 who have been deprived of parental care and love and to facilitate solving their problems with education and healthcare. Hyundai Auto Azerbaijan will spend 50,000 manats ($62,500) on the campaign during its initial stage. The campaign envisions providing assistance to 50 children, who will be selected based on incoming applications.
The designated e-mail, , and the phone number (040) 250 09 30 will be open beginning January 1 for those in need.
Karimova said the amount allocated for the campaign might increase in the future.
According to the Main State Traffic Police Department, 750 people fell victim to car accidents in Azerbaijan during the first 10 months of 2009.
Karimova noted that Hyundai Auto Azerbaijan implemented a number of social projects in the country this past year. The company has always placed an emphasis on promoting Azerbaijani culture and sports. As examples of these efforts, she cited the publication of a book and an audio-book by Gunel Anarqizi and of a book-catalogue consisting of young painters’ and Anvar Aliyev’s works; conducting Top festivals for children jointly with the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA); and regular amateur futsal tournaments. Moreover, several video promos have been created and screened since 2005 in an effort to enlighten car drivers and to promote observance of traffic regulations and prevent road accidents in the country.
Rustam Mammadov, the head of Hyundai Auto Azerbaijan’s marketing department, said the company, which was established in 1995, became the leader in the domestic car market in 2007. Azerbaijan ranks second for the sales of the brand, with 22.8%, next only to South Korea, where the figure amounts to 55-56%. *
