An Azerbaijani woman was accidentally shot dead after crossing the contact line with Armenian troops on Sunday morning for reasons that have yet to be fully established.
Sadagat Mammadova, a resident of the Aghdam district, died of wounds after Azerbaijani servicemen opened fire, the Defense Ministry spokesman Eldar Sabiroglu said.
Sabiroglu said the soldier who opened fire has been detained and a scrutiny into the incident is underway. "Additional information will be provided about its outcomes."
Local residents said Mammadova had earlier divorced her husband and lived with her daughter in the district’s Khyndyristan village. She is said to have suffered a psychiatric breakdown after her family had broken up. Two days earlier, the woman had disappeared, eyewitnesses said.*
