British lawmaker appalled by 1918 killings of Azeris
A British lawmaker visiting Azerbaijan condemned the mass killings committed against Azeris by Armenians in 1918 after witnessing the burial in the northern Guba district.
Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, a member of the House of Lords, condemned the genocide perpetrated against the Azeri people, saying she was appalled by the atrocities.
"I have been to many countries subjected to genocide, but have never seen the horrifying images that I saw here. I am disappointed that the people faced such brutality. As a politician, it is one of my goals to profoundly study these events of Azeri history, as I will be reporting to the British parliament about Azerbaijan."
In 1918, Armenians killed over 50,000 Azeris throughout the republic and expelled 10,000 people from their homes. 16,000 people were slain in the Guba district alone.*
