Erdogan: Mending Armenia ties linked to Garabagh talks
Normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations is connected with the
Azerbaijani-Armenian negotiations over Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh
conflict, said the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at
press conference after the meeting with U.S. President Barack
Obama, CNN Turk reported.
According to Erdogan, U.S. and Turkish leaders discussed relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
"This is important in the complex of relations between Turkey and Armenia," he said.
Erdogan said that they discussed the Armenian-Azerbaijani talks in the framework of OSCE Minsk Group.
Azerbaijan and Armenia fought a lengthy war that ended with the signing of a cease-fire in 1994, but Armenia continues to occupy Upper Garabagh and seven other Azerbaijani districts in defiance of international law. Despite numerous rounds of OSCE-brokered negotiations, peace talks have been fruitless so far. *
