Azerbaijan’s military well-equipped to free occupied land: minister
Azerbaijani Minister of Defense Industry Yaver Jamalov has said
the country will have to liberate its land under Armenian
occupation if the ongoing talks on settling the Upper (Nagorno)
Garabagh conflict with Yerevan yield no fruit, saying his ministry
is capable of supplying the military with the needed arms.
The remarks came during Jamalov’s meeting with the visiting Polish
Defense Minister Bogdan Klich. The minister said, further, that
Armenia, which is sticking to a non-constructive stance in conflict
settlement talks, has fallen considerably behind Azerbaijan in
terms of economic development.
Jamalov said Azerbaijan is cooperating with over 60 companies from
more than 20 countries in the defense industry field. Baku has
already signed a cooperation agreement with Polish firms on
upgrading the arms arsenal and utilizing large-caliber weapons.
Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict for nearly two
decades. Armenian armed forces have been occupying over 20 percent
of Azerbaijan’s internationally-recognized territory since the
early 1990s, defying international law.*
