Blast thwarted on Russia-Azerbaijan gas pipeline
An explosion has been prevented on the Mozdok-Gazimammad pipeline
transporting gas to Azerbaijan from its northern neighbor Russia. A
bomb with the capacity of 10 kg of TNT was rendered harmless by
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSS) employees on Thursday
morning several meters away from the pipeline’s section in the
neighboring country’s republic of Daghestan, Russian RIA Novosti
news agency reported.
Daghestan’s FSS said security officers had found a suspicious object in the area on Wednesday. Sappers who arrived at the site established that it was an explosive substance.
Such incidents are frequent on the Mozdok-Gazimammad pipeline. On November 11, a blast on the Daghestan section of the conduit caused an interruption in gas supplies to the nearby settlements.*
