LUKoil set to invest up to $1m in Azeri SME
Russia's top oil producer LUKoil is ready to invest $200,000 to a
million in Azerbaijan if "interesting projects" are available, its
president Vagit Alekperov said on a visit to Baku last week.
The funds will come from a fund on the development of small and medium enterprise that the oil giant plans to establish in the countries it operates in.
The LUKoil boss also expressed interest in financing Azerbaijan's education sector. He offered to select Russian-speaking schools to benefit from the provision of equipment, textbooks and other items. The company also plans to contribute to the development of higher education in the country.
Alekperov discussed oil and gas projects being implemented in Azerbaijan with LUKoil's participation during the visit.
The Russian company is taking part in two energy projects in the country. It has a participating interest in the D-222 (Yalama field in the Caspian) project and is involved in tapping the major gas field Shahdaniz. The company also operates gas-filling stations in Azerbaijan.
