MFA: Baku propose Abu Dhabi to exempt Azerbaijani citizens from visas [PHOTO]

Azerbaijan has has proposed the United Arab Emirates to exempt Azerbaijani tourists visiting the UAE from visas, for the purpose of promoting tourism and increasing the flow of tourists, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has stated in its official website.

The issue of possible visa exemption for Azerbaijani citizens was raised during the second political consultations held between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates held in Abu Dhabi on October 30, 2019.

It was noted during the meeting that the number of tourists from the UAE visiting Azerbaijan have tripled.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the bilateral relations in political, economic, trade, tourism, science, education, humanitarian and other areas, Azerbaijan-UAE relations, socio-economic development in Azerbaijan, as well as cooperation between the two countries within regional and international organizations.

Expressing satisfaction with the political relations between the two countries, Hasanov noted that bilateral economic relations do not reflect the potential of the two countries. He emphasized the importance of expanding the legal framework in this area, as well as the intensification of mutual visits of businessmen from both countries.

Hasanov thanked the UAE for the support rendered to Azerbaijan, in particular within the UN and OIC, expressing satisfaction with cooperation in international organizations.

Hasanov further gave detailed information on the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and stressed the need to increase the OSCE Minsk Group’s efforts to resolve the conflict on the basis of sovereignty and territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders of Azerbaijan.

He also thanked the UAE for its position in preventing the export of products produced in the Nagorno-Karabakh region and other occupied territories of Azerbaijan to the UAE market under different brand names.

In turn, Al Marar congratulated Azerbaijani side on the high-level organization of the 18th Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Baku.

The sides noted the importance of the 7th meeting of the Economic Commission for Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation between the Government of Azerbaijan and the UAE to be held in Baku in November 2019. They further exchanged views on investment projects, projects under consideration and the memorandum of understanding between the two countries.

The sides also noted the importance of expanding existing contacts in the field of culture, as well as holding cultural days, exhibitions and symposiums.

During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on regional and international security and other bilateral and international issues of mutual interest.

The UAE delegation was headed by Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Political Affairs, while the Azerbaijani delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ramiz Hasanov.
