Saudi envoy's tenure to expire

30 January 2008 22:29 (UTC+04:00)
The tenure of the Saudi Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ali Hasan Jafar is about to expire. Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the outgoing envoy on Monday, the ministry told AssA-Irada.
The two stressed that cooperation between the two countries rose to a high level during Amb. Jafar's activity, saying mutual visits that have become frequent served this purpose.
Mammadyarov highly assessed the Kingdom's consistent support for Azerbaijan's stance within international organizations on key issues such as the Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh conflict his country is facing with Armenia.
Jafar, for his part, thanked the Azerbaijani government for all-rounded assistance he had received during his diplomatic mission. He said the Days of Azerbaijani Culture Saudi Arabia hosted last year attracted a great deal of interest among the local public. Jafar also pointed to the need for further expanding bilateral relations in the economic, energy and healthcare fields.
Ali Hasan Jafar was the first ambassador to Baku appointed by Saudi Arabia. He has made a valuable contribution to the establishment of friendly relations and the development of political, economic and cultural relations between the two countries.
