28 October 2009 00:11 (UTC+04:00)
An individual who allegedly spied for Azerbaijan has been detained in Armenia, according to media reports that were dismissed by Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies.
Gevorg Ayrapetyan is suspected of having cooperated with the secret service of Azerbaijan.
Novosti Armenia news agency quoted Armenia`s National Security Service as saying that Ayrapetyan, a retired lieutenant-colonel, was discharged from the country`s armed forces in 2007, having been charged with violating military orders.
Also, a foreign national who allegedly arranged contacts between Ayrapetyan and Azerbaijan`s secret service has been arrested.
Azerbaijan`s National Security Ministry has rebuffed the reports, calling it ``nonsense.``
