European court upholds convicted terrorist`s plea
The European Court of Human Rights has upheld a
lawsuit filed by an Azerbaijani citizen who was found guilty of
terrorism.
Having reviewed the plea filed against Azerbaijan`s Supreme Court by Rahib Magsudov, who was a member of the Sadval group, the European court ruled that his right to a fair trial had allegedly been violated.
Magsudov, an ethnic Lezgin, was arrested for carrying out a May 1994 bomb explosion in the Baku subway, and initially handed down a death sentence. However, after the death sentence was repealed in Azerbaijan, his sentence was reduced to life imprisonment.
