Two killed, dozen injured in power accident
Two people were killed and 12 injured in an accident in Azerbaijan`s southern Jalilabad district last Wednesday.
The Baku-based ANS TV channel reported that, a day earlier, electricity poles toppled in the Badamagaji village following a heavy rainfall, causing a blackout. Local residents took the matter into their own hands and straightened the poles. However, after failing to tightly pull the wires, they hooked up one of the cables to a nearby telephone pole. When the electricity was switched back on, induction occurred, causing simultaneous ringing of phones in about 30 households. All those who answered the phone suffered an electric shock. Orkhan Babirov died on the spot, while 60-year-old Dilshad Teymurova passed away three to four hours later. Twelve others received burns of varying severity, and their conditions are said to be stable.
