Saudi Arabia`s National Day marked in Baku
The embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Azerbaijan conducted a function dedicated to the country`s National Day at the Gulustan Palace of Baku on Monday. Azerbaijani officials, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions, the public and journalists attended the event.
Ambassador Fahd bin Ali al-Dusari said in his remarks that the relations between Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan have historic roots, and bilateral cooperation is developing in line with the interests of the two nations. Al-Dusari regarded Baku`s being announced the capital of Islamic Culture-2009 by the Organization for Islamic Conference (OIC) as Azerbaijan`s remarkable success.
Touching on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh conflict, the ambassador said his country backs Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity, in accord with the United Nations and OIC decisions, and will always stand by the country.
Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev said the Azerbaijani people welcome Saudi Arabia`s position on the Garabagh conflict.
Further, Garayev noted that relations between the two countries are developing successfully both in the bilateral format and within international organizations, adding that the Days of Culture held in both countries in 2008 promoted this friendship further.
Saudi Arabia celebrates its National Day on September 23 every year. In September 1932, King Abdul Aziz bin Abdur Rahman Al Saud, having completed the unification of divided provinces, declared the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, governed by Islamic canons. Following the demise of King Abdul Aziz in 1953, the throne was taken by his sons.
