Azerbaijan exported about 77,625 tons of potatoes to Russia in January-November 2018.

This is equal to 14.1 percent of Russian imports, Report informs referring to Russian media.

In the reporting period, Russia imported 550,537 tons of potatoes worth $ 204.4 million.

Although potato production in Azerbaijan is two times more than the country's demand, Azerbaijan also imports potato.

During the first 11 months of 2018, Russia exported 4,641,17 tons of potatoes to Azerbaijan in January-November 2018, that makes 3.5 percent of Russia's total potato exports.

However, Russia exported 132,605 tons of potatoes worth $ 13.9 million, which is 28 percent less than in the same period last year.

Potato production is expected to be increased by two percent to 958,000 tons in Azerbaijan in 2019.

It is forecasted that 972,000 tons will be produced in 2020, 1.004 million tons in 2021 and 1.063 tons of potato in 2022.

In terms of the production volume of potato in the regions of Azerbaijan, Gadabay comes first (12 000 ha). It is followed by Tovuz (7,000 hectares), Shamkir (6,50 hectares) and Jalilabad (5,000 hectares).

Every year, Azerbaijan imports more than 50,000 tons of potatoes from Iran and spends more than $ 9 million on it.
