New rules for Old City entry
Entry to the Icheri Sheher (Old City) state historical preserve downtown Baku, which houses a number of offices and residential buildings, complies with new regulations from September 1, official sources said.
All roads in the ancient-style site will be one-way from now onward. Free access using plastic cards will be available strictly to the people residing and working in Icheri Sheher, as well as special vehicles, such as fire trucks, police cars and ambulances. Businesses located there will be required to pay for the cards.
Others may drive into Icheri Sheher using a one-time ticket, provided that the limit for the number of incoming cars has not been exceeded. The cost of parking depends on the length of stay. Drivers pay 2 manats ($2.50) for the first hour of parking and 1 manat for each of the following hours.
