Every corner of our capital carries in itself some kind of zest, some kind of uniqueness. Together they form the character of our city, our unique Baku.

One of such zests and symbols of the capital of Azerbaijan is funicular.

The Baku funicular has resumed its work after preventive maintenance, the Executive Power of Baku said on November 1.

Maintenance work was carried out at the stations and in the cable cars, the batteries with the expired service life were replaced with new ones, diagnostics and preventive maintenance of the cars and other equipment were carried out, the funicular was fully operational for the safe transportation of passengers. The necessary imported equipment was delivered to eliminate technical problems. Workers were issued new clothes.

The head of the Baku funicular, Tofig Ismayilov, said that the funicular was commissioned on May 5, 1960. During the Soviet period, trains on special orders were made in Leningrad, and equipment was delivered from Kharkov.

The length of the railway line of the funicular, which consisted of cars, was 455 meters.

This path was overcome in three minutes at a speed of 3 meters per second.

The interval between the funicular carriages, which played the role of an elevator from the monument to Bahram Guru to the Alley of Martyrs, was 10 minutes.

In an hour, an average funicular could carry up to 300 people.

The funicular was thoroughly repaired in 2001 and 2007.

On behalf of President Ilham Aliyev in 2012, major repairs and reconstruction works were carried out here.

The funicular opens after the repair on May 23, 2012.

It connects the area on Neftchilar Avenue and Nagorny Park.

Picturesque green spaces, thickets of shrubs, pines and firs and the magnificent panorama of the city slowly unfolding in front of us: the dark smooth surface of the Caspian Sea, reflecting the lights of the glowing Baku evening.

The funicular takes us to the Highland Park, where the monument to the Eternal Flame and the Martyrs Alley are located - the burial of the victims of Black January and those who died for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country.

Even more incredible view of the whole city and the bay opens up from the upper platform of the Highland Park.

So do not miss the chance to ride a cable car and enjoy the views of our capital!
