A population census will be conducted in Azerbaijan next October, said Chairman of the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan Tahir Budagov during his speech at the Baku Forum on Sustainable Development, held as part of the 6th Baku International Humanitarian Forum.

He went on to say that preparatory work in this direction is underway, further adding that a test census was held in Gabala.

“Currently, the information obtained in this area is being processed, and at the same time, software is being tested,” said the chairman of the Committee.

Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on holding the next census of population on October 1-10, 2019.

The current demographic situation in Azerbaijan is positive, while the population size of the country is expected to reach 12 million people by 2050.

Azerbaijan has an estimated 2018 population of 9.92 million, up from the 2014 estimate of 9.5 million. The population density is 115 people per square kilometer.
